Attributes

Roll 3 six sided dice, and write down the sum. You can re-roll any single die that come up as 1. Do this six times.
Next, assign those results to the six attributes:

  • Charisma – Affects the ability to hire retainers and their loyalty, and impressing strangers.
  • Constitution – Affects Hit Points (HP), and represents generally how tough you are.
  • Dexterity – Affects Armor Class (AC), Initiative in combat, Saving throws against Breath Weapons, and hitting things with ranged weapons
  • Intelligence – Affects ability to learn new languages, Saving throws against Magic, and the time and expense of researching new magical spells.
  • Strength – Affects hitting things in melee combat and opening stuck doors.
  • Wisdom – Affects non-magic-related saving throws, and noticing things.

Depending on the score you assign to each attribute, you may get what is called an attribute modifier. This can be a penalty or a bonus, represented by a negative or positive value. Use the following chart to determine the attribute modifier (if any) and write that down next to your attribute score.

Attribute………………Modifier
3………………………………… – 3
4 – 5……………………………- 2
6 – 8……………………………-1
9 – 12…………………………..0
13 – 15……………………….+ 1
16 – 17……………………….+ 2
18………………………………..+ 3

Got all that? Next, choose a species and character class.
